A new beginning, that is what I am embracing.
I have been a professional photojournalist since graduating from the Photojournalism program at Loyalist College in Belleville, Ontario in 1993. My professional life has seen me work at a small daily newspaper in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, freelance for the Vancouver Province, work as the staff photographer for a small wire service in Vancouver to the past 16 years, where I have been a staff photographer at the Calgary Herald.
My job has taken me from coast to coast in Canada, throughout the United States and overseas to Africa. I have seen a lot and done a lot in those 23 years.
In January of this year, I found myself one of the dozens of talented journalists and photojournalists to have their jobs made redundant by our parent company. The state of journalism and the future of journalism is teetering on a tightrope and I wish them the best in the future. But for me, I must move on to better times.

I am lucky that I am being afforded some time to take more training and update my skills. I am attending classes at Mount Royal University to obtain my Digital Content Creation, Digital Communications and WordPress extension certificates. This is giving me new and improved skills with social media and online digital content and when paired with my already strong skill set of photography, videography and editing makes my skills even more valuable.
So from here I will keep moving forward as I venture out for new beginnings.
